Hot flashes bother many women during menopause, often keep them awake at night. According to researchers acupuncture therapy can help relieve the undesirable side effects of menopause, and thus to improve sleep of women. The therapy consists of placing a thin needles certain acupuncture points on the body.
The researchers reported that nearly half of women who undergo acupuncture for eight weeks reported to relieve hot flashes by 50%. About one in ten participants reduce the frequency of hot flashes by 85%. Lead researcher Nancy Ives of the University of Wake Forest, North Carolina in the US, says that women who suffer from hot flashes and night sweats can try therapy with acupuncture. It believes it is an effective way to deal with the uncomfortable condition. She adds that during the study visibly relieve unpleasant symptoms observed 3-4 weeks after the start of conducting weekly procedures.
For the purposes of the study participation take 209 women who were aged between 45 and 60 years. Participants in the period before menopause or after him and are affected by at least four episodes of hot flashes or night sweats each day.
